I have read Plastic Angel! I too was dissapointed that there were only two songs on the CD with the book and would like a copy of the full CD when you get the chance Lauren.

I liked the idea of the book. And I really enjoyed how the songs were incorperated into the story. The glimps into the songwriting and collaborative process was excellent. But the characterization was really poor. I barely knew who Gellie was and Randi felt like a pawn of the author with no real soul of her own. I love the songs that were written about them, but in book form they seemed hollow. With that in mind, it was a decent read and I did enjoy the book, just perhaps not as much as some others did.

I'm sending it on to Celeste.

I have read Plastic Angel, passed it on to Bernie, who in turn has passed it on to Miriam. I'm finally posting about it now.

I liked it. It was cute, a little cheesy. It definitely felt like something Nerissa Nields would write. So much about hippie towns and Bob Dylan and guitar playing and books. I have a hunch that Rhodie Beckett is supposed to be based on her. In her self-proclaimed "tough days."
I was disappointed that the CD only had two songs on it. I have the full length album which has every song that the girls or The Big Idea play in the book. If anybody wants to hear that, let me know. :)

Book sent

I sent the book by media mail to Lauren this morning. It should arrive in 4-7 days. I suggest, for expediency, cost and proximity's sake, that the book go to Bernie (masshysteria) next. If Bernie and Lauren see Celeste (walkingfish) or Miriam (talesanddreams)over winter break, then it can be handed off to one of them. If not, then the book should be sent to Celeste next and the queue can resume as normal. Currently, according to first-post priority, the queue is Celeste, Tara (taraisagoddess), Miriam and Bernie. If anyone foresees an easier, more cost effective means of moving the book about, let me know.

Media mail cost me $1.42, which seems fairly reasonable. I wrapped a spare piece of bubble wrap around the book and then wrapped the whole thing in an ad insert from the paper, so I think the book should be fine. I also included a Kzoo keychain and a note, which aren't completely kosher, so we'll just hope they don't inspect it ;) I think it would be a nice tradition to include a little something from your neck of the woods with the package, but doing so is completely up to the sender.

Lauren, please put up a note when it arrives so that I know that it got there safely and we can guesstimate shipping time. Now it's time for me to go write a "literary" book review. Happy reading everyone :)

PS, I've put tags on everyone's entries so far. It would be helpful if everyone could tag their own entries. For example, this entry deals with the queue and with shipping and sending the book, so it has the tags queue, shipping and sent. When Lauren posts that she receives the book, it should have the tag "received." When someone writes a review, or suggestion, those tags can be used as well.

I would also like to read the book.

I recently read Amalee by Dar Williams. It was good, though a tad bit preachy. I still recommend it. It's a kids book and it only took me an evening to read. Enjoy!

I went through this morning and customized a lot of text in the community, but I must admit that I'm not patient or experience with LJ customization. Would someone like to come up with a customized style, icon, etc. for the community? If necessary, I'll instate one of you as a co-maintainer to put things into effect. Thanks in advance guys :)

current song: [Glow in the Dark] Plastic Angel- The Nields

This blog was created to track the travels of a copy of Nerissa Nields' novel Plastic Angel. The book was first acquired by </a></b></a>relena_wolf at the 2005 NCTE Convention. She read it, thought it was fabulous and knew she had to share it with long-time Nields fan </a></b></a>bailamorena, so she sent it off with an inscription instructing that the book was to be sent along. As the book progresses on its journey, this blog will chronicle its whereabouts and people's reactions to it.

If you've come in contact with this special, travelling book, please share your experiences with the rest of us. Please also send an email to Plastic[dot]Angel[dot]Book [at] Gmail [dot] com so that </a></b></a>relena_wolf can keep track of the book and let you know if there's an address that wishes to receive it next.

Responses from other people who have read the book, or who would like to have the book sent to them, are also welcome.

We hope to hear from other readers soon :)
